Quality of Children's Food Under Strict Control
Recalls of baby and toddler food from the market, both globally and domestically, are not uncommon and are usually carried out preventively – at the slightest suspicion of product defects. The reasons can vary, from the presence of prohibited substances and contamination to errors in labeling or the production process. Although such a rapid response system shows that controls are functioning, each such case strongly affects consumers, as it concerns the most sensitive category, children. Therefore, food safety for children in the modern food industry represents the highest level of responsibility – not only towards regulations but, above all, towards the most sensitive group of consumers. In the European Union, recalls of baby food are regularly recorded in the rapid alert system, and during 2025 and early 2026, several recalls of formulas and purees were initiated. In some cases, over 100 batches of products were recalled, while the disputed items were distributed in dozens of countries. The reasons are most often suspected contamination, the presence of prohibited substances, or labeling errors.
