One of the biggest changes in education is on the horizon! Ministry confirmed: Let primary school students prepare
A major change is being prepared from the 2027/2028 school year in Serbia, with a planned increase in the threshold for enrollment in gymnasiums and secondary vocational schools, according to the latest statement from the Ministry of Education. According to it, the minimum threshold for enrollment in gymnasiums will be, as planned in the proposal, 70 points based on the success in the final exam and the general success from the sixth to the eighth grade of primary school, while the same for educational profiles in four-year secondary vocational schools and in artistic education and training would amount to 60 points.

TL;DR
- Serbia is increasing the minimum enrollment points for gymnasiums to 70 and for four-year vocational schools to 60, effective from the 2027/2028 school year.
- The Ministry of Education states the change aims to improve the quality of education by admitting students with higher achievements.
- There are concerns that the higher threshold may lead to the closure of some schools, particularly in less urbanized areas of Serbia.
- Previously, the minimum threshold for enrollment was 50 points for gymnasiums and four-year vocational and art schools.
- Professor Aleksandar Markov views the change as significant, with both positive and negative implications, noting that some schools currently enroll students with just over 50 points.
