WORST YEAR SINCE WORLD WAR II: Birth rate falls to lowest level! WHAT IS HAPPENING?
The total fertility rate, the average number of children per woman, has also been declining since 2022.

TL;DR
- Germany's birth rate in 2025 was the lowest recorded since 1946.
- The number of births fell for the fourth consecutive year, down 3.4% to approximately 654,300.
- Deaths in 2025 outnumbered births by about 352,000, the largest deficit since WWII.
- The decline is partly due to fewer women born in the 1990s being in their prime childbearing years.
- Eastern German states saw a more pronounced drop in births (4.5%) compared to western states (3.2%).
- Several other European countries, including France, Austria, Italy, and Sweden, also experienced declining birth rates.
- Spain, the Netherlands, and Finland are showing signs of stabilizing birth rates.
- Births are expected to remain below the 2021 level of 795,000 even under favorable assumptions.
