Third-Tier Sloven Stuns Vojvodina as Serbian Cup Underdogs Take Center Stage

Sloven’s 1-0 victory over Vojvodina headlined a Serbian Cup round filled with surprises, as Grafičar, Teleoptik and FAP also eliminated higher-ranked opponents.

The Serbian Cup round of 32 delivered a string of upsets, led by third-tier Sloven’s 1-0 home victory over Vojvodina. One report described the result as a “sensation,” noting that the Ruma club had eliminated last season’s finalist and secured a place in the round of 16.

The decisive moment came in the 29th minute, when Aleksandar Gajinov scored for Sloven. Vojvodina, which arrived with a partly rotated lineup, could not recover despite second-half changes. Sloven goalkeeper Andrej Kožul then preserved the lead as the visitors pressed late in the match.

Another major upset came in Belgrade, where First League side Grafičar defeated SuperLiga club IMT 2-0. Stefan Hajdin opened the scoring in the 21st minute before Nikola Furtula completed the victory six minutes into the second half. Grafičar, a club associated with Crvena zvezda, reached the next round after overcoming a team sitting fourth in the top flight.

Teleoptik added to the lower-league success by eliminating Mladost from Lučani on penalties. The match finished 1-1 after regular time, with Teleoptik prevailing 5-4 in the shootout after Veljko Kijevčanin missed for Mladost. FAP also advanced on penalties, beating Spartak Subotica 5-3 after a goalless draw.

Among the completed matches, OFK Beograd was the only SuperLiga team to defeat lower-league opposition, edging OFK Vršac 1-0 through Jakub Sila’s 70th-minute goal. TSC beat Smederevo 3-2, while Javor won 3-1 away to Jedinstvo 1936.

The round of 16 is scheduled for December 2. The Cup winner will qualify for the Europa League’s first qualifying round, with VAR planned to enter the competition from the quarterfinals onward.
