WHO Assesses Hantavirus Outbreak on Cruise Ship as 'Low Public Health Risk'
The World Health Organization (WHO) has assessed the eight reported cases of hantavirus infection on the cruise ship MV Hondius, which included three fatalities, as a low public health risk. The WHO stated that the outbreak does not signal a new pandemic, as transmission of the Andes virus strain involved typically requires prolonged close contact.
