Juliane Koepcke survived a plane crash after LANSA Flight 508 broke apart in mid-air due to a storm.
She fell 3,048 meters (10,000 feet) strapped to her seat and was the only survivor among 92 passengers.
Koepcke spent 11 days in the Amazon rainforest, surviving on candy and using survival skills learned from her zoologist parents.
She was eventually rescued by local woodsmen and taken to a hospital.
Koepcke recovered, helped locate the crash site and victims, and later became director of the Panguana research station.
