Instead of a Barracks

The work of author Dragan Kašiković won the first prize at the invited, two-stage, survey, architectural competition for the conceptual design of a residential and commercial building at 31 Kosančićev venac. The future building at this exceptional location, which together with the Belgrade Fortress represents the most valuable part of the urban landscape participating in the image of the capital, will be erected at the site of the "Sigmaprojekt" building. In addition to Kašiković's conceptual design, which the jury, headed by Prof. Ivan Rašković, architect, assessed as having "to the greatest extent responded to the programmatic, spatial, and urbanistic requirements of the competition and represents an adequate basis for further development of project documentation for the planned building", the selectors also awarded two recognitions to the works of Goran Vojvodić and Alan Gvozdenović "who stood out for certain qualities". Architect Vojvodić "for a high-quality and rationally organized spatial-programmatic solution of residential units, as well as a thoughtful approach to interior design with clear functional logic and a high degree of spatial articulation", and Gvozdenović "for the successful architectural integration of the building's facade towards Kosančićev venac street into the context of the protected spatial cultural-historical whole, achieved through careful volumetric design, proportions, typological interpretation, and thoughtful materialization".
