Venerable Isidore of Pelusium is celebrated by the Serbian Orthodox Church on February 17th.
He was Egyptian, born to distinguished parents and related to Alexandrian patriarchs Theophilus and Cyril.
After studying secular sciences, he renounced wealth and fame for a spiritual life in Christ.
He was a great defender and interpreter of the Orthodox faith.
Historian Nikephoros states Isidore wrote over ten thousand letters, offering correction, advice, comfort, and teaching.
He believed it was more important to teach virtuous living than eloquent preaching.
His primary rule was to act first, then teach, following the example of Jesus Christ.
He supported Saint John Chrysostom during his persecution, writing to Patriarch Theophilus.
He lived a long life, achieved much, and passed away around 436 AD.
