A Cigarette Butt Threatened Karađorđe's Mulberry Tree
Smederevo – Two weeks after a fire engulfed part of the trunk of Karađorđe's Mulberry tree, a monument of nature and a significant historical site in Smederevo, which 'Politika' wrote about, Aleksandra Doslić, director of the Institute for the Protection of Nature of Serbia, visited the site with experts responsible for protected natural heritage in the Smederevo region. Previously, the public utility company 'Zelenilo i groblja,' which manages and cares for Karađorđe's Mulberry tree, informed the Institute about the incident. Following the visit and expert consultations, it was confirmed that all protection and preventive activities have been carried out appropriately so far, according to the City Administration. They added that further directions for cooperation have been defined to more effectively implement protection measures and enhance protected natural heritage.
