TL;DR

  • RNIDS is giving away a new Serbian Cyrillic font, Almono, to celebrate the 14th anniversary of the Serbian internet domain.
  • Almono is the seventh typeface gifted by RNIDS and features 14 font styles suitable for print and web.
  • The font was created by Ana Prodanović, a professor at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade.
  • Almono is a monospace font, meaning all characters have equal width, which is useful for specific applications like coding and web design.
  • A major challenge in creating monospace fonts is ensuring consistent text density despite characters having the same width.
  • Experts highlight the underutilization of the Cyrillic script online, attributing it partly to the prevalence of Latin script in computing and the existence of two writing systems.
  • The .srb Cyrillic internet domain is part of the IDN (Internationalized Domain Names) family and is one of the first Cyrillic domains globally, after the Russian .rf domain.
