There was a fair in Debeljača
Debeljača – The last weekend of March is reserved in Debeljača for a fair, and it has been like that, as they say here, since the beginning of time. This precisely means since 1873, when Emperor Franz Joseph himself gave permission for the organization of a large market, after the local judge Tot Samuel and resident Mezo Istvan went directly to Vienna. The approval arrived in Debeljača in three languages, and between the Reformed Hungarian and Serbian Orthodox churches in the center, a fair begins to live, initially twice a year.
TL;DR
- The Debeljača fair originated in 1873 with permission from Emperor Franz Joseph.
- It was initially held twice a year but now takes place quarterly.
- Vendors sell a variety of goods, including crafts, pottery, furniture, and traditional sweets.
- The livestock section has seen a decline, with fewer horses and cattle compared to previous years.
- Despite changes, the fair remains an important social and economic event for the region, with a focus on entertainment and local cuisine.
