"Loss is smoothed over with subsidies": GSP reduced its deficit last year, but with 6.7 billion dinars of city and state aid

Public Transport Company (GSP) "Beograd" finished last year with yet another loss in a row, but significantly smaller than in 2023 and 2024. This result was achieved thanks to generous subsidies, not only from the City but also from the state.

"Loss is smoothed over with subsidies": GSP reduced its deficit last year, but with 6.7 billion dinars of city and state aid

TL;DR

  • GSP "Beograd" ended the last year with a net loss of approximately 385 million dinars, a decrease from nearly 2 billion dinars in the previous year.
  • This reduction in loss was achieved despite public transport in Belgrade becoming free for all citizens from January 1st of the previous year.
  • The company received significant financial support, totaling 6.7 billion dinars, from the City of Belgrade and the Republic of Serbia.
  • Despite operational profit, financial expenses, primarily interest payments, led to the net loss.
  • GSP also saw a decrease in its workforce, losing around 400 employees last year.
