Former Serbian tennis player Tatjana Ječmenica died in a serious traffic accident.
The accident involved a truck and her SUV on the Orlovača bypass, heading towards Ostružnica.
Ječmenica died at the scene, while her husband, Darko Jevtić, sustained life-threatening injuries and is in an induced coma.
A photograph of the completely destroyed vehicle has been released.
The cause of the accident is being investigated; initial reports suggest Ječmenica may have missed an exit and attempted to reverse, or was driving in the wrong direction.
Tatjana Ječmenica was a professional tennis player who won 6 ITF singles titles and 3 doubles titles.
She also served as the captain for the Fed Cup teams of Serbia and Montenegro and Serbia.
Her husband, Darko Jevtić, is the long-time director of RK Vojvodina and a member of the SPS party.
Jevtić is survived by her husband Darko Jevtić and son Aleksa.
