Summer Break for EES at the Greek Border

Jelena Vujić Obradović, Serbia's Consul General in Thessaloniki, confirmed what has been speculated for some time - that the EES will be practically suspended for our citizens during the summer season, meaning a more flexible border control regime will be applied at the borders with Greece from June 1 to August 30. This decision comes in response to increasing pressure ahead of the new tourist season and fears of hours-long delays at border crossings, so it is already certain that in conditions of large crowds, procedures will be simplified to ensure faster passenger flow. Although the European Union formally introduces the EES as a unified system for all Schengen countries and there is no possibility to officially decide that it 'does not apply' to certain countries, in practice, room has been left for flexible application in situations where its implementation would lead to traffic collapse at the borders.
