TL;DR
- Nearly 60 million euros in subsidies have been granted to five investors for hotel development in Belgrade for EXPO 2027.
- The Ritz-Carlton, owned by Milenijum tim, received the largest subsidy of 30 million euros.
- New incentives allow hotels to receive up to five million euros for partnering with international hotel chains.
- Belgrade is projected to have around 10,000 hotel rooms after new constructions, which is considered adequate for its population and expected tourism.
- The success of these investments depends on Serbia's market promotion and its ability to attract tourists.
- Quality of service and hotel standards are crucial for competitiveness against regional cities like Budapest and Vienna.
- Beyond hotels, private accommodation and even boat-hotels ('boteli') are considered part of the overall capacity.
- Profitability for the state from these subsidies is expected within five to six years through VAT revenue, contingent on occupancy rates and effective management.
- A government commission will oversee the expenditure of these funds, with a requirement for transparent reporting from recipients.
- Investment in staff training and development is also highlighted as critical for improving the quality of hotel services.
