RSE: Over two billion euros already allocated for EXPO
Allocations for the construction of the complex and the realization of the special exhibition "Expo", which is to be held in Belgrade in 2027, have exceeded two billion euros since 2024, Radio Free Europe (RSE) reported today, drawing this conclusion based on data from Serbia's annual budgets.

TL;DR
- Over two billion euros have been allocated for the "Expo" complex and realization in Belgrade since 2024.
- Funds are earmarked for the National Stadium and infrastructure related to the exhibition.
- A special law (lex specialis) allows for direct negotiations, bypassing public procurement laws, raising transparency concerns.
- The "Expo" complex is estimated to cost 1.2 billion euros, with total related projects potentially reaching 17.8 billion euros.
- The National Stadium's construction is estimated at 970 million euros, with around 872 million euros allocated from the budget.
- Economists question the long-term viability and cost-effectiveness of new exhibition facilities and the stadium.
- Despite issues in realization, officials believe the projects will be completed before the exhibition.
