A service that was free until now will cost about 350 dinars: Charging begins on July 1, here are the details
From July 1, 2026, there will no longer be customs exemption for small packages from outside the EU worth up to 150 euros, so a flat customs duty of 3 euros will be introduced.
TL;DR
- From July 1, 2026, small packages from non-EU countries valued up to 150 euros will no longer be exempt from customs duty.
- A temporary flat customs duty of 3 euros per commodity type will be implemented until July 1, 2028.
- This new measure will impact goods sold via the Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS) system and also from EU sellers importing goods from third countries.
- The customs duty will be charged per product classification, meaning multiple types of goods in one package will incur separate charges.
- A formal agreement was reached by the Council of the European Union on February 11, 2026.
- The EU is also considering a separate 2-euro administrative fee per e-commerce shipment, which is still under negotiation.
- The European Commission will monitor importers for attempts to circumvent the new duty and will assess the readiness of the EU's centralized e-commerce customs IT infrastructure by December 1, 2027.
- The goal of the temporary measure is to close a regulatory gap and ease the pressure on customs services caused by the rapid growth of e-commerce imports.
