US Marines Arrive in the Middle East, Iranians Destroy "AWACS"

Three and a half thousand American Marines have arrived in the Middle East, on the amphibious assault ship "USS Tripoli", to join the contingent of 50,000 US soldiers engaged in Israel's and America's war against Iran, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced. Sailors and Marines arrived in the region on March 27 with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, along with transport and attack combat aircraft, as well as amphibious landing and tactical assets. While official Washington has not yet announced what the tasks of the arriving Marines might be, the "Washington Post" states, citing unnamed sources, that "the Pentagon is preparing for weeks of limited ground operations in Iran, potentially including attacks on Harg Island and coastal locations near the Strait of Hormuz." According to that source, "plans, which do not represent a full invasion, could include special forces and conventional infantry troop attacks."
