Februar u narodnoj tradiciji Srbije nikada nije bio običan mesec. Iako najkraći u godini, oduvek je bio bogat praznicima, svecima i simbolikom. Naši stari su smatrali da upravo u ovom mesecu priroda počinje da se budi, ali i da zima može pokazati svoje najteže lice. Zato se sa velikim poštovanjem dočekivao svaki praznik, svaka sveća koja se pali i svaka reč koja se izgovara u molitvi.
